A Day of
Shopping to benefit Camp Agape, a haven where children with cancer
and their families can come together and enjoy special moments.
Because Balboa Park is intimately connected with and sometimes
overshadowed by the San Diego Zoo, visitors to America's Friendliest
City might overlook the rest of the attractions there and a wide
variety of great treasures that can be found in Southern California.
The park holds 32 world-class museums ranging in variety from the
Museum of Man to the nifty little Railroad Museum...more
The Broadway/San Diego venues are operated by
the Nederlander Organization and perform
at both the Spreckles Theater and Civic Theatre.
This organization is comprised of the California
Ballet Company and the California Ballet School. The California Ballet
Company performs in centers throughout the county.
Founded in 1968, the California Ballet School is among the largest
professionally staffed schools of dance on the West Coast.
City Ballet produces classic and contemporary ballet programs. They
also provide training programs for children and pre-professionals.
And City Ballet's innovative education programs range from arts
outreach to inner-city children to bringing the world's best ballet
instructors to San Diego.
A community playhouse offering lunch and dinner
shows.
Bucked up against the San Diego Zoo, the Old Globe complex in
Balboa Park consists of three theatres, Old Globe Theatre, Cassius
Carter Centre Stage and Lowell Davies Festival Theatre.
They produce both classical and contemporary works.
The outdoor, Lowel Davies Festival Theatre offers great summer
evening productions punctuated by the occasional sound of howler
monkeys.
Events are held throughout the county.
La Jolla Playhouse
At $12 for adults and $9 for children, this is one of the great
attraction values in San Diego. The Maritime Museum of San Diego
consists of Berkeley, Revenge, California and a real Russian
submarine.
Numerous shows and exhibits are on display and, in the summer, you
can even sail aboard tall ships and experience mock sea battles (bring
your ear plugs).
Dinner and a fun "Who done it," await guests at the San Diego
Mystery Cafe Dinner Theatre.

Conveniently located in Balboa Park (with plenty of parking spaces
normally available) the Starlight Theatre performs during the months
of July, August, and September.
One unique feature of the shows occurs when jets inbound for
Lindbergh Field pass directly overhead. The actors freeze, sometimes
in mid-sentence, and resume when the noise level drops.
While this might sound irritating to some, it is a delight to many
and displays the excellent focus and acting ability of members of the
troupe.
