Sandy Purdon Appointed to the California Boating and Waterways Commission
San Diego Port Tenants Association Board member, H.P. "Sandy" Purdon, of San Diego, has been appointed to the Boating and Waterways Commission.
Purdon has been a member of the Port Tenants Association board since 2005.
He has served as the president of H.P. Purdon & Company, a management firm handling San Diego tidelands marinas since 1977.
Purdon is a member and past president of the California Marina Recreation Association, a member and past chairman of the San Diego Port Tenants Association and past president and chairman of the San Diego International Sports Council.
When contacted for a statement regarding his appointment, Purdon responded, “I’m excited to continue on as the Chair of the Department of Boating and Waterways Commission.
There is much we can do to enhance the access and facilities for recreational boaters in California provided we can use the allocated gas tax revenues from boaters for our programs.
In my opinion the big issues involve protecting access to the waterways for boaters of all types and providing the financing for launch ramps and marina facilities to the ocean and to our lakes.
We will continue our work on safety and the environmental pertaining to recreational boating.
Overseeing the yacht and ship licensing continues to be managed well by our staff. We now have a full commission for the first time in a long time. The staff is superb but the financial challenges for the department are still haunting us.”
