If you're looking for relaxation, nature, leisure and recreation, San Diego is probably the best option. If you're looking for nightlife, excitement, glamour, culture and a wide variety of events to choose from, Los Angeles would be the best option. San Diego is MUCH more picturesque, cleaner, greener (literally), with less traffic, nicer beaches, nicer views and, overall, a resort-style environment. And any food you can find in Los Angeles, you'll probably find it in San Diego, the eighth largest city in the United States.
Although both cities have vibrant cultures, tasty food and beautiful beaches, there is a clear difference in environment and experiences. Every beach feels different and every dish has different flavors in each of the cities. In both Los Angeles and San Diego, you'll find plenty of activities to occupy your time. Most visitors tend to spend more time in Los Angeles than in San Diego because of the total number of sights and activities.
San Diego is a fun and family-friendly environment where you have a lot of things to do with your partner or your children. If you're looking for a getaway in a different sense, consider a day trip to Catalina Island, which is easily accessible from the Los Angeles suburbs of Long Beach or San Pedro. With world-famous DJs, stage shows, authentic cocktails and bright dance floors, the nightclubs immerse themselves in the atmosphere of San Diego until dawn. For a more relaxed experience, head to Ocean Beach, a vast stretch of sandy land south of the San Diego River.
If San Diego is the city you've chosen to visit, you'll likely need to find a good place to stay while you're there. In San Diego, hikers enjoy the waterfront trails of Torrey Pines State Park or the city's highest peak, Cowles Mountain. Rent is much lower in San Diego than in Los Angeles, and a rental on Airbnb is cheaper than other lodging options.

The City of the Angels health system index is 61.58; San Diego's numbers in the same index are 70.50. Touted as the craft beer capital of the United States, San Diego was at the forefront of this now international trend. San Diego's public transportation does more than avoid the big traffic jams that are part of the Los Angeles landscape.
If you've decided that Los Angeles is the city for you in the great debate between Los Angeles and San Diego, then you'll need a place to stay during your visit. We admit that there is an opportunity to meet in Los Angeles, but the same can be said for San Diego. Although non-natives tend to associate beach stereotypes with Los Angeles, San Diego definitely takes the cake from the beach quality in Southern California.
